3 Days in Tokyo: A First-Timer's Itinerary
A realistic 3-day Tokyo itinerary for first-time visitors, grouped by area so you're not crossing the city back and forth.

Day 1 — Asakusa & Ueno (traditional Tokyo)
Start at Senso-ji, Tokyo's oldest temple, and walk the Nakamise shopping street leading up to it for snacks and souvenirs. In the afternoon, Ueno Park is a short train ride away, with museums if the weather's bad and a big park if it isn't.
Day 2 — Shibuya & Harajuku (modern Tokyo)
Shibuya Crossing in the morning before it's at its busiest, then Harajuku's Takeshita Street for youth fashion and crepes, and a walk through the forested approach to Meiji Shrine, which feels dramatically different from the streets around it.
Day 3 — Choose your own adventure
Day 3 is where the trip planner tool on this site is useful — it'll suggest a third day based on what you told it you're actually interested in (anime, nature, shopping, or food), since Tokyo genuinely has a strong option for each.
